IMPORTANT NOTE: It is important for anyone with diabetes, hypertension or other lifestyle disease to check their sugar and blood pressure levels or other relevant parameters every day when they start having a green smoothie, as it naturally heals the body and the medication will need to be reduced under the supervision of their medical doctor.

The main ingredients of this smoothie that help prevent, arrest, and/or reverse lifestyle diseases are the greens and the chia seeds. The fruit is to make it delicious. Add frozen fruit for a cool and refreshing smoothie. You can have this as a replacement for breakfast and through the day till around 4pm as it can keep you up late and make it difficult to fall asleep if you have it later in the day.

Learn why smoothies are important. However, I also believe that eating fruits helps in achieving our optimum health. Please learn more from Gaurav Goyal and his group Eat Fruits and Heal. This information is shared in Hindi. Here’s a simple explanation that Gaurav Goyal shares.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tightly packed raw greens
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (for omega 3)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pulpy fruit like bananas, papaya, pineapple, mango, guava, etc. Make sure they are really very ripe so they are sweet.
  • water

Method

  • Add the greens at the bottom of the blender. (If you are using a nutribullet, reverse the order.)
  • Add the chia seeds next.
  • Add the fruit on top.
  • Add enough water to just about cover the greens.
  • Blend till it results in a smooth homogeneous drink.

Notes:

  • Greens that you can use are any that you make a sabji with, including shepu (dill), methi (fenugreek), spring onion, rajgira (amaranth), sarson (mustard greens), chavli, ambat chuka (khatta paalak/sour spinach), kale, lettuce, etc. You can also use beetroot greens, radish greens, etc. However remember to always rotate the greens and check with a plant-based doctor as some greens can adversely affect certain diseases like thyroid.
  • Add a de-seeded date or two to make it sweeter.
  • Add the juice of a lime, chopped ginger, cinnamon powder, etc to flavor it to taste it the way you like it. Go ahead and enjoy experimenting!
