Red Fresh Coconut Chutney with Garlic

This is a chutney that we made very often when I was a child and we usually had with idlis or dosas. We also ate it as an accompaniment with our meals.

Recipe credit: Darshana Muzumdar

Serves 4-6 as part of a traditional Indian meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup or half a fresh coconut scraped/grated/chopped
  • 4-5 dry medium spicy red chillies (byadgi is the preferred choice)
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • a small lemon sized ball of tamarind
  • rock salt to taste

Method

Grind all the ingredients together with as little water as possible to make a fine paste.

This chutney is a traditional accompaniment with idlis, wadas, dosas, etc.

This is a Whole-Food Plant-Based (WFPB) chutney!
